Triomf

Book adaptation/Drama, South Africa/France 2009

In 1994, as South Africa prepares for its first democratic elections, tensions rise in the poor white suburb of Triomf, Johannesburg. The Benade family, considered white trash, plans to flee north in fear of the election outcome. Uncle Treppie's frustration with the family's poverty and social isolation, as well as their history as Afrikaners, leads him to seek drastic change in the new South Africa. Meanwhile Sonny, an acquaintance of the slow-witted and epileptic Lambert Benade, waits to reclaim his family's land stolen by the Benades. A tale of horrendous and hilarious family dynamics.
