The documentary Stacheldraht (Barbed Wire) is the sequel to 'Die Mauer'. It traces the continuing expansion of the exclusion zone in East Berlin until December 1961. The original footage documents the consequences of division: dilapidated buildings, border zones patrolled with guard dogs, walled-up cementery gates, tear-gas clashes between East and West German police and refugee memorials on the West side and interviews with fugitives.
